21st Century Metaphysics: A Contradiction in Terms? Pt.3

So now we come to the final installment, the one you’ve all been waiting for, in our search for a viable contemporary Metaphysics. Yes, this final essay in the series will deal with the concept of Sexual Transcendentalism, that is, Sex as an ultimate medium for achieving higher consciousness. So, fasten your seat belts.

By way of introduction to the subject, let’s put the Sex/Metaphysics Connection into historical perspective. The first known philosopher in the Greek tradition was a chap named Thales, who lived ca.624B.C.E.-546B.C.E. Little is known about him, and he left no writings, but he is credited by Aristotle as having put forth the first comprehensive metaphysical theory with his statement to the effect that ‘All is Water,’ or perhaps ‘It’s All Water.’ That was it. Not exactly a book there, right? Nonetheless, we know that in point of fact his take on reality was surprisingly accurate, if lacking considerably in detail. My point is that beginning with Thales, metaphysicians have been honing their theories since the 7th Century B.C.E., without the slightest mention of sex-as-transcendent-vehicle. No doubt there were many that experienced such transcendence, and perhaps a few even wrote on the subject, but no systematic treatise of any kind has survived in the West, and as a result we have waited a long time, until the 20th Century in fact, to see Sex gain entry into the overall discussion. Moreover, it has had to wait even longer to be dealt with in any kind of formal way, at least as a valid topic for academic philosophy is concerned. The truth is that we are just beginning to grasp the significance of sex as it relates to our spiritual lives. The fact that irrational prohibitions and taboos continue to hover so tenaciously over the subject is still beyond comprehension, but I think we may finally be seeing some cracks in the puritanical armor of the collective consciousness. With a few more open minds entering into the discussion, we may not be utterly naive in hoping for increasingly meaningful dialogue on the nearly limitless power of sexual self-expression. Happy the man who may contribute to such a worthy cause!

OK, so just how does Sex come together with Metaphysics? It is part of what we discussed in Part I when we noted that modern metaphysics could not remain content with academic knowledge while stopping short of direct experience of its objective. Sex may just be the most effective and certainly the most enjoyable method of achieving that direct experience. Everyone has had what they consider to be galactic sex at one point or another, that time(s) when the partner was perfect, the mood was perfect, and the climax was best described as celestial. These moments are what most of us would categorize as ‘peak,’ but in fact, very few of them actually qualify as transcendent. When speaking of transcendental sex, I refer to a specific understanding of an activity that facilitates a very real transformation of what we generally call ‘personal’ energy or ‘self’ into extra-dimensional Universe-Energy. As beautiful, wonderful, and desirable as our peak sexual encounters may be, they fall short of this transcendental level unless certain specific characteristics are present.

To begin with, the only kind of sexual experience that possesses transcendental capability is that which fulfills our deepest, secret sexual fantasy or fantasies. I am speaking here of those fantasies most of us rarely express and may never actually experience. The ones that are ‘too dark’ or ‘too weird’ or ‘too embarrassing’ to share with anyone, let alone ones romantic interest. Each of us has such fantasies, and they embody in totality that experience we long for above all others. Instinctively, we know that they represent transcendence, though we don’t often connect them with the term itself. For some they are more obsessive than for others. It is socially considered a sign of being ‘well-adjusted’ if these obsessive desires remain fleeting and entirely peripheral. For others they come to rule the person’s entire psychic make-up. Naturally, there are endless levels that exist between the two poles, depending on the individual. But regardless of where one places the forbidden drive, it remains the portal to transcendence whether it is explored or not. It represents a completely other experience from that which most people mean when they talk about ‘great sex.’

The element of Ritual is also an essential part of such fantasies. Ritual not only renders concrete that which was merely ethereal, but it provides the religious connection to the state of ecstasy being created, which transforms feeling into an act of reverence and Worship. The sense of Worship, of emptying ourselves completely to the presence of the other—and thereby into Absolute Being—is vital to the propagation of the transcendent act, the moment of translation into higher reality. This is the problem with the standard conception of sex as an expression of love between two people. Well, it may be such an expression, and it may NOT be. The problem with the sex/love connection is that it tends to move counter-intuitively towards repression. We want to feel that the more we love someone, the less inhibited we become, and the more willing we are to share our deepest secrets, but in truth it works in precisely the opposite way. The other can become so precious to us that we actually FEAR showing them who we really are. If we have the sense that the other is not going to relate to our particular brand of erotic fetishism, we are more likely to suppress our feelings than to try and communicate them. We don’t want to be rejected, and we certainly don’t want to lose someone we feel in love with because we got too kinky for them. This is why the enlightened modern philosopher must be extremely careful to whom she offers her exclusivity. Ideally, for the purpose of transcendental sex, we need to partner with someone who either shares our particular obsession, or, at the least, someone whose judgements have no bearing on our lives. A professional domme, for example, may find your fetish strange, even grotesque, but he/she will understand your right to own it, and will do her best to see that your intention is accomplished. You may not be able to say the same about your girlfriend of 6 months.

Worship and Ritual have no concern with anything long-term. This is precisely why they are necessary elements in the attainment of the transcendental experience, because their function is that of facilitating the shift from one form of consciousness to another DURING THE CEREMONY AT HAND. The most conducive setting for transformation may best be achieved when ones sex partner is intent on working the Ritual and fostering the attitude of worship, rather than forming ultimate value judgements about the partner.

Providing the partners are aligned in their sexual roles and desires, all notions of super-ego, inhibition, political correctness, censorship, or reluctance to offer up full personality disclosure are stripped away and the religious act may develop to its transcendental conclusion. If the forbidden longing, this ultimate fantasy springing from deep within the subconscious is brought to life, executed fully and without restraint by both partners, extra-dimensional translation can be expected and achieved. In such a state, everyday consciousness is left behind completely and we enter into the mystical state, that is, union with Absolute Spirit. In this profound state of enlightenment we understand intuitively the concept of Cosmic Consciousness. We perceive the entire universe as a living whole and understand ourselves as integral parts of that whole. No longer are we aware of any sense of separation from that which surrounds us. We become as atomic imperatives in the grand order of everything. We see and now comprehend the multi-dimensional structure of reality, the tenseless nature of time, and the extraordinary existence of countless numbers of alternate realities in the forms of parallel universes, extra-dimensional portals, quadrants, and corridors, incomprehensibly vast membranes containing even larger numbers of universes, in short, the essence of all reality and our eternal connection to it. We understand our eternal nature as a given in light of our new knowledge that the universe is, in its foundational aspects, pure consciousness and that we ourselves are but manifestations of that same consciousness.

It’s safe to say that sex this good will change your life. It’s also safe to say that one cannot attain to metaphysical truth until one has experienced The Sublime. So whether it comes through sex, meditation, or a combination of the two, such illumination is the holy grail of modern metaphysics. May you be one of the lucky ones.

21st Century Metaphysics: A Contradiction in Terms? Pt. 2

In the last post we were working towards a viable contemporary conception of Metaphysics. We had determined that it definitely needed a face-lift in order to remain a relevant study for modern man who lives in the post-mythological age known as ‘what you see is what you get.’ Still, no matter how much we seek to modernize our subject, Metaphysics, of necessity, must include the study of mysticism, and this despite modernity's’ bias against things supernatural. But the simple response to this objection is that the New Metaphysics does not look upon mysticism as supernatural in any way. Conversely, it considers it fully natural as it constitutes a pathway to HIGHER reality, and as such is certainly no less ‘real’ than anything else we take for granted in everyday life. In line with this, we had also suggested earlier that in addition to our necessary and progressive academic study, we must avail ourselves of direct techniques through which we may actually experience these higher realities directly. Those techniques, at least in part, were identified as Meditation and Sex. And so the New Metaphysics presents us with the description of a discipline that combines all the solidity of scientific cosmological research with state-of-the-art applications for the apprehension of knowledge and realities that lie beyond the reach of scientific methodology. Our next order of business is that of outlining the features of this second and critically important set of exploratory techniques.

THE METAPHYSICIAN’S TOOL BOX
Admittedly, there are certain problems associated with the word, ‘meditation.’ For most people it conjures up visions of Buddha, holy men wandering the streets and countryside of India begging for gruel, and probably more than anything else, it reminds them of the rash of phonies and con-artists that made their fortunes in the 60’s and 70’s beguiling gullible, drug-addled hippies with one variation or another of dime-store ‘enlightenment.’ Typically, the more it cost, the more replete with utter gibberish were its contents. In short, it is easy to understand resistance to the word. But there is no sense in trying to dance around it by calling it ‘contemplation’ or ‘concentration,’ ‘manifestation’ or ‘visualization,’ etc. because, well, you know, a rose by any other name… So, let’s stick with the word, try to put aside our 50 year-old connotations, and get down to some real and genuine work in the realm of discovering ‘what it’s all about.’

As for a quick note on methods, there may well be as many forms of meditation as there are people who practice it, so I’m not going to deal as much with technique as with the mechanism through which the various forms accomplish their ends. The bookstores are filled with books on the various techniques, and most of them are useful in this regard. Experiment until you find methods that are comfortable for you.

Meditative techniques are key in opening ourselves up to change. Our routines program our minds to function in their service, and the more constant the routine, the more deeply engrained will be the programming. We actually come to glorify and often deify these routines and programs. In so doing, change becomes something fearful, something to be avoided, an undesirable element that could, at any moment, threaten the smooth operations of our routines. This depressing little vignette actually describes the life-patterns of the great majority of world citizens. What is needed is change, but change—the bugaboo of collective conformity—has ceased to be of interest. Meditation is a technique through which we can re-program ourselves. If we’ve been fortunate enough to discover our need for awakening, meditation provides us the vehicle for getting there.

Meditation progresses in stages, and the first stage is always that of gaining a basic understanding of how the mind works. Most readers will have attempted some sort of meditation or yoga and are familiar with the basic exercises of concentration, whether on the breath, an object, a mantra, or simply the present moment. They’re all geared toward exposing us to the inner workings of the ‘watched’ and the ‘watcher.’ Nothing new here. Upon reaching a certain level of mastery in the basics things start to get interesting. When our minds are unclouded by the random ‘flow of flotsam,’ as I call stream of consciousness gibberish, we begin to notice some powerful changes taking place. Our perceptions become so focused, and yet so free, it’s as if we’ve never really seen or felt the world around us at all. Everything begins to feel new and profoundly alive. It is here that our modern-day metaphysician discovers something powerful and transformational. As this process of self-emptying continues, reality continues to become transformed until a moment comes in which all separation from the external world ceases and transcendence is achieved. Transcendence is the goal of meditation. Its achievement is the summit point known as Cosmic Consciousness.

Cosmic Consciousness is the province of the mystics, those who are beyond illusion and delusion, who have realized the miraculous majesty of Being and understand that it is manifest through them, through all of us. Such a level of consciousness necessarily takes us into the realm of higher dimensional space-time. We realize that all we now perceive, not only on a sensory level, but also on a higher cosmic level, is Absolute Spirit, the Universe-Consciousness from which all reality is spawned. Pure consciousness is the foundation, but even this is not really an accurate word. It is only meant to trigger larger associations. Cosmic Consciousness takes us into realms of the wordless. Spoken or written language cannot ‘translate’ our apprehension of The Absolute.

It has not been my intention here to discuss technique in detail so much as to enforce the notion that meditation is an essential part of the New Metaphysics. It is part of its look, its swagger, its vibe, and its methodology. The moment is upon us as a race to participate actively in our own evolution, and nourishing the evolution of consciousness is the most important part of it. Far, then, from being an anachronism or self-contradiction, this new breed of metaphysician, the complete person, the individual who resides in all dimensions at once, is the answer to humankind’s greatest need in the 21st Century. She is as comfortable in her daily affairs as she is in the depths of the most transcendent moment of ritual. She no longer senses any particular difference between enjoying a cocktail among friends or soaring through limitless planes of extra-dimensional space-time. She is an enlightened, eternal being. Her interior state is one of infinite joy. She is the model for a new phase in human evolution.

Join me for the next post when I'll be discussing everyone's favorite topic, Sexual Transcendentalism.

21st Century Metaphysics: A Contradiction in Terms?

Bring up the subject of metaphysics to the average person of our times, and you are likely to be met with a befuddled and more than slightly condescending gaze; a gaze that lasts just long enough for the person to make his fond excuses and bolt in the opposite direction with all possible dispatch. Sophisticated modern/post-moderns think less and less along such lines today, and more and more along the lines of a self-explanatory world in which the standard model of cause and effect are all that’s required to negotiate the ever-so-impersonal obstacle course called ‘life’. But more than simply having a greatly increased knowledge as to the workings of the cosmos, people have simply acquired a skewed interpretation of the word itself. Metaphysics. The very sound of it creeps some people out, and in a way, you can’t really blame them. It’s a word the majority of people associate with some sort of esoteric New Age fad revealed to its proponents by channeled spirits, ghosts, witches and warlocks, or even the Devil himself. Whatever it is, it’s got nothing to do with their 2 o’clock budget meeting, their anger over the deserved raise they didn’t get, the fact that the kids both need braces at the same time, and the coup de grace, the mechanic’s somber pronouncement that the Saab needs a complete engine overhaul. These are such things as life is made of, not the tossing of runes and the taking of the druid’s vows. In short, ‘Metaphysics’ has become code for ‘something I don’t understand, and don’t WANT to understand.

Of course, there aren’t many Philosophy students roaming the earth these days, so it’s hard to blame everyone else for harboring a poor interpretation of a word they may well have never uttered in their lives. But for those with some vague notion of the Arts & Sciences, Humanities, and the like, Metaphysics is as legitimate an endeavor as any other in the realm of scientific inquiry. It constitutes one of the five branches of Philosophy along with Ethics, Epistemology, Logic, and Aesthetics. Metaphysics, as so simply and wonderfully defined by my first college Philosophy professor, is ‘The Systematic Inquiry into the basic nature of Reality.’ The basic nature of REALITY. Now there’s something we can really sink our teeth into. In the space of one sentence, our ghosts and goblins give way to the most penetrating thought of some of the greatest theoretical minds alive today. Metaphysics, above all other fields of study, concerns itself with the total picture of Being itself. It deals with ultimate questions, but rejects the kinds of easy answers offered by superstition and traditional religious dogma. Ridding ourselves, then, of any misguided conceptions regarding the grand discipline of Metaphysics, let’s move on and take a look at the state of our subject in the opening decade of the 21st Century.

What does a modern metaphysics look like when it is stripped of any appeal to unfounded superstitions and blind faith in untenable traditional dogmas? (I realize we are still dealing with great numbers of brain-dead fundamentalists in our modern world, but as their metaphysical beliefs are ruled out of any serious discussion of reality by sensible, thinking individuals who embrace modernity as a given, we’re going to have to leave their theories out of our inquiry. We can only recognize such people, and their refusal to accept any version of an educated, contemporary world-view, as deluded and dangerous and hope that somehow their children may be exposed to sufficient doses of reality to lead them out of the maelstrom before they, too, succumb to insanity.) Well, whatever it looks like, it’s not going to look like religion, per se. It is going to require a contemporary face if it is to hold any interest for today’s ‘skeptic-by-default.’ The first order of business is to separate the known from the unknown while leaving a section open for debatable ‘gray area’ concepts. Not everyone will agree on which is which.

In the modern world, we look to science for our answers to ultimate questions. Where we once turned to faith and the authority of church, synagogue, or mosque, we now understand that Physics, Astronomy, Cosmology, and Philosophy are leading the way in the quest for ‘the bottom line,’ which we call Ultimate Reality, or THE REALLY REAL. And so the object of our inquiry, Metaphysics, finds itself in a strange sort of ‘No Man’s Land,’ in which traditional religion has been abandoned, while Science remains on the fence with regard to ultimate questions. There is a nagging doubt among our world citizens. It is the awareness that resignation to a material nihilism is too easy, too shallow, while at the same time, any sort of ascent to traditional forms of ‘faith’ is an anachronism inconsistent with any reasonable post-modern world-view. It becomes the task of Metaphysics to discover and elucidate a world-view that satisfies this demanding criteria, that is, to provide us with a world-view that facilitates both the truths afforded by science (physics) and the doubts and uncertainties that reach beyond it (Meta) in a unified, systematic fashion. In light of all we now know, a quite ambitious undertaking, to say the least.

From the start, we must understand clearly that metaphysics is not and cannot be a purely academic form of study. It must also lend itself to empirical experiments through which theories may be tested and results measured in such a way that we may begin to grasp some sense of the boundaries of human perception; to gain a higher degree of certainty with regard to just what CAN be perceived and in what fashion. This is what philosophers have been trying to clarify down through recorded history. They have noted that we typically acquire our basic notions of such parameters through individual experience combined with an awareness of the current findings of the sciences. Today, such areas of philosophical research as Cognitive Study, for example, seek to clarify the workings of consciousness itself in order to better define its character and limits. Their hope is to show that it's all in the brain, that materialism explains perception in its entirety. But one engaged in metaphysics has his doubts about this. He suspects that ultimate reality is not a product of the brain. He also knows that he must avail himself of methodologies perhaps too experimental for those committed to the cause of pure materialism. He must reach higher, beyond the stars.

Now the tools that actually allow for direct experience of higher realities, or expanded consciousness, have been with us for a long time. They are, namely, Meditation and Sex. More than any academic enhancement, these two elements will serve to modernize the notion of Metaphysics in a big way. Having said that, academia has indeed been busily harvesting some exceptional data and theoretical modeling in the service of the cause. String Theory, or as it is often called, ‘M’ Theory, demonstrates that a coherent theory of everything—the Holy Grail of Physics and Cosmology—is presently at hand. The main part of the theory that causes disagreement among physicists is the fact that it requires that there be 11 dimensions to reality. If we’re OK with that, we’ve got a theory that takes us to the very intersection at which all the forces of nature become explicable in the same language. This area of research is of enormous import to the modern day metaphysician. The ongoing work being done in the Quantum fields is another key area of potential breakthrough. It is through Quantum Theory that we have been able to understand the irregularity that lies at the very foundation of matter and energy. The 21st Century Metaphysician will indeed keep his eyes on the prize in close company with the world of Science. To have any hope of understanding reality as a whole, we must retain vigilant observation from every relevant angle.

In addition to staying informed of scientific progress, the seeker of metaphysical truth must also familiarize herself with avenues of discovery that science cannot by its very nature investigate. These are the realms of the spiritual, the higher realities, the META realities, the provinces of the unimaginably vast body of knowledge that lies beyond the methods of scientific experimentation. This is an area of enormous difficulty because the results of any kind of experimentation generally prove to be quite resistant to demonstrable proofs. They are not considered among the bodies of scientific knowledge owing to their speculative natures. On this point it is vital to understand that the labeling of any discipline as ‘speculative’ may represent nothing more than differences in approach and differences in the techniques of gathering and interpreting information. One thing is certain, and that is that the problem of higher realities, spiritual questions, extra dimensional space-time and the like do not disappear simply by ignoring them. And though these areas are admittedly the most difficult in which to gain true ground in the ascertaining of facts, that only leads some of us to work at it all the harder and to continually research new methods of ascertaining truth in the highest of all mankind’s aspirations, and that is, to comprehend the Big Picture…to know the Mind of God. In the next post, we'll take a look at some more of the methods of Metaphysics.

The Mystical Way

Is it possible to live one’s life in a fluid, continuous state of bliss? Is it true, as the spiritualists have attested, that life was meant to be a celebration, a journey of joyfulness through the miraculously improbable event we each call ‘my life?’ This is the question dealt with by the mystics from the beginning of man’s awakening to wonder. Some have answered in the affirmative, but the overwhelming majority of humankind knows nothing of such notions, and considers the wisdom of the sages to be little more than a jumble of impractical and improbable non-sequiters void of any application whatsoever in the modern world. Admittedly, our world-view has become more and more deeply rooted in scientific thought and in the types of synthetic judgements that are confirmed by experience, and this is certainly a welcome improvement over the superstitions and spurious mythologies that have comprised the belief systems of the many for far too long. Nevertheless, we still have a long way to go before humanity as a whole arrives at a truly sane world-view. At the same time, we are also in danger of throwing the baby out with the bath water. The world of appearance is, after all, still a great mystery, and we must be on guard against thinking we know more than we actually do. No matter how much we have learned, we are still far from grasping the meaning of the underlying structures that form the ground of all we perceive through sensory contact with the world. The task of modern thought, then, is to keep probing in an effort to discover at least some fragment of metaphysical truth. Only when we have begun to grasp something of the true nature of the cosmos can our spirits tap into that realization of bliss, that sense of eternal celebration lying dormant within us. In striving for this, we are hot on the trail of Cosmic Consciousness.

Who Are You?

The world continues to spin out of control. The system—ALL the systems—are breaking down or have already broken down. Under such circumstances, the ways of the outlaw, the rebel, and the revolutionary begin to have an increasingly compelling and quite genuine appeal. They are, of course, the most certain pathways to ultimate freedom under any circumstances, but in the face of a world on the verge of collapse, these ‘high-risk’ pathways to holism become viable choices for larger segments of the populace. Investigation, exploration, inquisitiveness, ingenuity, perhaps outright madness are at last being revealed as the essential attitudes in achieving self-realization. We live in a time in which it seems inconceivable that all man’s grandiose cultural and social constructions have fallen into utter collapse before our very eyes, and yet that is precisely what is happening, with an eerie and inevitable clarity, day by day. Do we need any further evidence to become convinced that following the prescriptions of mainstream culture is tantamount to committing emotional, spiritual, and indeed physical suicide? There has never been a better time to embrace your individuality, and swim against the current. It is there that one’s own truth is to be discovered.

Youth must once again become grounded in Philosophy, in the evolution of the Spirit, and in the advancement of humanity as a bona fide representative of Universe-Potential. How far from this have we strayed at present with our interminable tide of MBA candidates blindly reducing the whole of life to charts, graphs, and impersonal, profit-loss ideologies? Until culture itself discovers the need for reflection, wonder, and openness to life as something greater than jobs and bank accounts, the crisis facing us in this foul year of our lord, 2009, will only fester and spread until the planet devolves into utter chaos.

And so I say ‘get your ass out of business school and turn your gaze toward the stars!’ Be who you are, not what the world tells you you should be. Bag the conformity thing, and harness the courage to follow your own rhythms. They beat powerfully within you, whether you realize it yet or not. A new generation must begin asking the question; “Why SOMETHING rather than NOTHING? How is it that existence defines the cosmos? We must open ourselves and allow ourselves to be profoundly stricken by the fact that BEING constitutes the nature of things rather than NOTHINGNESS. If you can get your heads around this, as the most significant question of all, you may just become one viable link in the evolution of mankind. If you can’t, there’s always alcohol. It's infinitely preferable to business school and slavery to the 9-5.

A World In Crisis

The search for holism is a uniquely human endeavor. As far as we know, no other creatures spend their time in efforts to possess anything that might be thought of as a sense of unity, peace, oneness, enlightenment, or salvation. They are free of existential conflict. Not so with the perpetually confused entity know as Homo Sapiens. Humanity is firmly, and apparently inexorably, mired in a state of ultimate confusion. Along with this confusion comes the inevitable estrangement, conflict, and infighting that seems to define us as a species. No doubt we have all asked ourselves whether and why it must be so. But when the answers come, they always ring hollow. But, having more pressing affairs to attend to than our ‘senses of holism’ we go on our not-so-merry ways and try to pretend we’re satisfied with the pat answers. But what are these pat answers? Whatever variation they may employ, they usually come down to some notion that because we’re all different, we can’t be expected to agree with each other on important issues. A bunch of snowflakes warring with one another because each is unique and doesn’t like the patterned designs of the snowflakes near to him. Now this sort of answer is actually not bad if we’re only trying to describe symptoms of our confusion and conflict. Most of humanity’s sickness does stem from ideological differences of opinion. But in terms of getting at the underlying causes of our dysfunction, it misses the mark entirely. The most advanced beings in the cosmos may have heated disagreements. But if they have evolved to the point of universal consciousness, or Cosmic Consciousness, as it is generally termed, they will have realized that disagreement is natural. It is conflict among themselves that is not.

So, if our ‘inherent differences’ don’t explain the causes of man’s inhumanity to man, what is it all about? As indicated above, it has to do with our state of evolution. Generally speaking, the human race has reached the point of being able to realize Cosmic Consciousness, but so far only a rare few have recognized this potential and opened themselves to it. Ironically, the problem lies in the very myth that causes us to relate to each other as isolated entities in the first place, and that is what I call The Myth of the Separate Self. This myth has to do with the way we perceive ourselves in everyday life. We have come to think of ourselves as something like souls in boxes, whose parameters of self extend no further than the outer contours of our bodies. It becomes a given under such an understanding that life is an intensely serious game of ‘I’ against ‘Them.’ Because ‘I’ am an isolated entity ‘I’ must covet self-preservation, or rather self-perpetuation, above all things. Cut off, then, from metaphysical oneness with all of existence, fear becomes my primary emotional state, and aggression my primary mechanism of interaction with the world. Buried beneath such an illusion, it is no wonder I am unfulfilled, conflicted, and chronically inauthentic. Of course, most of us have little trouble realizing that life should be ‘more than this.’ We’re haunted by this gnawing little certainty more often than we’ll admit. The problem is that we can’t slow the juggernaut down sufficiently to step off and take a more relaxed and critical look at what’s really going on. Worse still, it doesn’t register with us that this is our one great need. If we could get off of our self-propelled treadmills, we’d see right away that the patterns of life-choices promoted by mainstream culture are inimical to human development. They are geared to accommodating faceless, mindless herds in the most efficient ways possible. They are not geared to the holistic evolution of our uniquely gifted and progressive species.

It is clear that the time for an awakening is upon us. The time is upon us as individuals to become who we really are; singular and extraordinary expressions of the cosmos in full bloom. And in so doing, the grand paradox of Being is revealed to us; that by embracing the marvel of our own lives and following our own inner truths we evolve to the realization that we are not isolated and estranged, but rather that we are integral parts of the great whole thing. Better yet, that we are the whole thing expressing itself in this one particular way, never to do it quite this way again. In this realization is the attainment of Cosmic Consciousness.

Fabulous Fantasies...of the Voluptuous Kind

Naturally, there will be occasions during which I have nothing intelligent to say, or perhaps simply don't feel like writing. This is one of those times.

In such moments, I can only say; 'Enjoy the view for now and check back for the next post, in which we will be investigating the concept of Individuality. Oh yes, and of course, more girls. See you soon!
